POSITION SUMMARY:

The Advocates, the staff of Notre Dame Long Term Care Center, the Health Care Coordinators, and the Support Coordinator work to provide for the needs of the Sisters of Notre Dame in residence at Notre Dame Long Term Care Center.  Advocates represent the “family” for the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur who are residents of Notre Dame Long Term Care Center in Worcester, Massachusetts and advocate for the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur with the healthcare system (doctors, hospitals etc.) keeping them aware of the health of these sisters.  The Mission of the Sisters of Notre Dame directs the Advocates in their daily interaction with each person with whom they come in contact throughout the day.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Visit with sister-residents regularly.
  • Accompany sister-residents to Mass and other activities throughout the day.
  • Communicate with NOL TCC and Hospice staff regarding the health of the sister-residents as appropriate.
  • Accompany sisters to emergency room visits, dentist visits, hospital and rehabilitation visits.
  • Communicate with proxies and family regarding the health status of sister-residents.as appropriate.
  • Assist with care of clothing, personal items, mail, and phone.
  • Provide gifts for birthdays, holidays.
  • Assist with Sister Gatherings, special lunches and special events.
  • Assist with home visits for weddings, funerals, jubilees, etc.
  • Be the liaison with Proxy, Family, and Province Team contact, Health Care Coordinator, Pastoral Care and Funeral Home at time of a sister's death.
    • Provide back up support to staff caring for sisters
    • Attend Family Council Meetings
    • Assist with Advocate Office record keeping
  • Other duties as needed

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Advocates spend much of their time on their feet helping Sisters in their charge
  • Must have the ability to bend, twist, and stretch while transferring a Sister from one place to another, getting into and out of a car, getting into and out of bed, etc.
  • Must be capable of lifting Sisters of varying weight
  • Must have the physical strength to perform emergency procedures, such as CPR
  • Must be comfortable driving Sisters to and from appointments and other activities
