Pastoral Ministry

All of our service a ministry!

However, some Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur wear special ministry hats working with people within the Church or bringing Church to people!

Here are some of the SNDdeNs of the U.S. East-West Province who are engaged in these ministries.

Chaplains

Sister Kathleen Gallivan is the Director of Chaplaincy Services at Brigham and Women's/Faulkner Hospitals, a large academic medical center in Boston.

Sister Yvonne Bondi is a Spiritual Director, Mission Appeal Coordinator, member of the Associate Board, and a volunteer at Samaritan House.

Liturgists

Sister Sharon McMillan

Sister Sharon McMillan is a faculty member of the Graduate Program in Pastoral Ministries at Santa Clara University. She also serves as liturgist for many special events.

Sister Martin de Porres Coleman prepares the music for Sunday and seasonal liturgies and funerals at Mercy Retirement and Care Center in Oakland.

Spiritual Directors

Sister Maureen Casey values her ministry in retreat ministry and spiritual direction, which she describes as "basically helping people notice how God is working and moving in their lives."

Eucharistic Ministers

Magdalena Yang is a volunteer Interpreter and ministers to home-bound individuals through On Lok Lifeways and for Cathedral of St. Mary of the Assumption

Prison Ministers

Sister Mary Ellen Howard has been serving as a Chaplain at the Los Angeles County Jail in Lynwood, Calif., working with some of the 2,000 women held there.

She has also helped many women continue to develop their spiritual lives while imprisoned.

Religious Education Teachers

Sister Liz Tiernan has developed many creative programs for schools including "Celebrate the Presence of God" and "From Abraham to Jesus in 60 Minutes or Less."

She has also extensively worked with Native American communities.
