Sister Barbara was born in Somerville, MA, to parents Frank and Dorothy (Eagan) Collins and has two siblings. She entered the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur in 1960, taking the name Barbara St. George. Sr. Barbara earned degrees from Emmanuel College in history and education, a master's degree in religious education/pastoral ministry from Fairfield University, and has a certificate in pastoral studies from Andover Newton Theological Institute.
