Sister Jacqueline Golden, a Sister of Notre Dame de Namur for 68 years, died peacefully at Mercy Retirement and Center in Oakland, CA, on August 24, 2014.
Jacqueline graduated from Notre Dame High School San Francisco and from the College of Notre Dame in Belmont. She received a Master’s in Education from Stanford University and a Doctorate in Education from the University of Southern California. From 1976 – 1978, Sister was the Assistant Director of the Institute for Catholic Educational Leadership (ICEL). Her classroom experiences ranged from teaching second grade to serving as teacher and principal at Notre Dame High School in Salinas, Dean at Notre Dame High School, Belmont and principal at St. Thomas More School in San Francisco.
Former classmates remember Jacqueline as fun-loving, proud of her Irish heritage, a good friend, a talented athlete and gifted in math. Barbara Kavanaugh Raggio, one of her former students at Notre Dame, Belmont, considered Sr. Jacqueline a favorite teacher, one who was both honest and fair, and one she used as a model for herself as a teacher.
Sr. Jacqueline enjoyed being a Eucharistic Minister at the Magnolia, in Millbrae. Residents appreciated her awareness and assistance, and visits when they were hospitalized.
Predeceased by her parents, John and Carmel Golden, and her brothers, Jack and Ronald Golden, Sister Jacqueline will be lovingly remembered by her nephew, Ron Golden, and niece, Laura Golden; grand-nephew and niece, Andrew and Alexa Golden; cousins, Daniel Lagan and Jeanne Prato, and her community, the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur.
