Remembering Sister Kathleen Walsh (1949 – 2023)

Sister Kathleen Walsh was born in Natick, Massachusetts, in 1949, to Joseph and Virginia (Fair) Walsh. She entered the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur in 1974. She took her final vows on August 11, 1984. Sr. Kathleen was born in Natick to parents, Joseph and Virginia (Fair) Walsh. 

Sister Kathleen earned her BS in Education from Salem State College and her Masters in Human Service Administration from Antioch College of New England. In addition, she received a Certificate in Gerontology from Curry College.

Throughout her years as a Sister of Notre Dame, Sister Kathleen served in various ministries throughout New England and Maryland. She started her career in education as a teacher and principal at East Boston Central Catholic and St. Augustine School, Lawrence, Mass. She did pastoral and administrative work at the Chapel of the Nativity in Barrington, NH, Notre Dame Spirituality Center in Ipswich, Mass., and Project Hope in Dorchester, Mass.

Sister Kathleen enjoyed working with the elderly. She found great joy ministering at Villa Julie Residence in Stevenson, Md., the St. Julie Billiart Residential Care Center in Ipswich, Mass., and D’Youville Life and Wellness Community in Lowell, Mass.

Sr. Kathleen is survived by her siblings, Joanne Consentino, Tricia Walsh and John Walsh and many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her brothers, Brian and James Walsh. She is also survived by her Sisters and Associates in the Notre Dame community, her many friends and the devoted staff of the St. Julie Billiart Residential Care Center.

Sister Kathleen went home to her good God on May 31, 2023 A Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 10 am at Our Lady Queen Chapel in Ipswich, MA, on Monday, June 5. A visitation and “sharing of memories” will take place prior to the Mass at 9:00am.
