Sister Monica Belber, SNDdeN, was born on February 18, 1943, in Middle VIllage, New York, to parents John and Lily Maceda. She entered on March 20, 2004, took her first vows on February 5, 2005, and final vows on February 2, 2008.
Sister Monica earned her BS in Education from State University of New York and her Masters in Theology from the Seminary of the Immaculate Conception. Before entering the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur, Sister Monica was a loving wife and devoted mother.
She was known for her gentleness and kindness. As a Sister of Notre Dame, she served in ministry as a hospital chaplain in Baltimore and New York. She shared that "my ministry has been a gift and a blessing for me, as I am a witness to grace in the lives of those who let me share in their journeys.”
She is survived by her siblings, Julia Willebrand, Peter, Daniel, Andrew and wife Carolyn, James and wife Shelly, and Mary Keymer. She is also survived by nieces and nephews, friends, and her Sisters in Notre Dame. Sister Monica is predeceased by her children, Christopher and Mary, her first husband, William Werner, her second husband, Richard Belber; siblings, John, Anne Fortier and Margaret Maceda.
She passed away on June 10, 2023, at the age of 80. Her funeral was be held on Wednesday, June 14, in Ipswich, Mass.
