Remembering Sister Patricia (Patricia Jean) Shanahan, SNDdeN (1930 – 2024)

Sister Patricia began her religious life on April 19, 1950, when she entered the Postulate Program with Parish Visitors of Mary Immaculate in Monroe, New York. She later transferred to the Connecticut Province of the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur on April 16, 1982, in Fairfield, Connecticut.

Throughout her spiritual journey, Sister Patricia continued her education, earning her B.A. from SUNY College, in Oneonta, New York, in 1976 and her Master's degree from St. Joseph College, West Hartford, Connecticut, in 1990. Sister Patricia directed catechetical programs among the poor in several states and in Peru, where she also supported families through a home-visit program and cared for children with special needs. When she returned to the United States she served as a Literacy Volunteer into her retirement years. Her boundless curiosity, her determined work-ethic and her deep faith in the goodness of God enabled her to live life fully wherever she served.

Sister Patricia went home to her good God on December 17, 2024, at the age of 94 and after 74 years of religious life.
