Political Holiness: A Spiritual Journey Part II

Following up on our September 2025 session on political holiness, Art will brieflyJon Sobrino 2013 review key parts from session one and focus session two on the relationship between our spiritual journey and our work for social justice. Again, Salvadoran theologian Jon Sobrino will be the focus with his insights on political holiness, and we’ll add insights on mysticism from Dorothee Soelle, Karl Rahner, and Segundo Galilea. After a presentation, there will be a dialogue, private time with a handout from Sobrino, and group sharing. We will also offer concrete examples of political holiness.

Presenter: Art McDonald

Presenter Bio: Art McDonald, a former Dominican (1972-83, South Bronx, 1978-82), is a retired Unitarian Universalist minister (1991-2017). He has a PhD from the University of Pittsburgh in the study of religion, focused on liberation theology in Peru. He has taught as an adjunct at many colleges and universities, as well as leading workshops, mostly on Catholic Social teaching and the relationship between religion and politics. He has published several articles and one book, entitled: A Progressive Voice in the Catholic Church in the United States: Association of Pittsburgh Priests (2019). He lives in Salem, Massachusetts, with his spouse of 42 years, Melanie McDonald.
