Statement from the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur, U.S. East-West Province On the 25th Anniversary of September 11, 2001

Twenty-five years ago, we witnessed our nation and our world forever changed. On this solemn anniversary, the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur, U.S. East-West Province join with all people of goodwill in prayerful remembrance of the nearly three thousand lives lost on September 11, 2001, and hold their families and loved ones in our hearts. We remember, too, the thousands more who have suffered illness and loss as a direct consequence of that day.

We give heartfelt thanks to the firefighters, police officers, paramedics and countless first responders who ran toward danger to save others. Their courage remains a model of the love our world still needs.

As Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur, we root our remembrance in hope rather than despair, trusting in our good God who brings life out of tragedy and calls us always toward unity, healing and peace. On this anniversary, we affirm our congregation’s enduring commitment to be women working for justice and peace so that every person may live in dignity and safety. We pray for all who still grieve; we honor all who serve and protect; and we commit ourselves as instruments of the peace our world so desperately needs.
