Ani “Ann Caroline” Wihbey
Sister Ani Wihbey, SNDdeN, has led a life of service that has always reflected her deep commitment as an advocate for positive change.
Though she trained as a nurse during World War II, the Sisters were a teaching order. Sister Ani spent many years as an educator before returning to school to get her nursing degree.
Her life of service next brought her to Brazil, where she lived among the people and provided them with health education so they could care for themselves. During the Nicaraguan Contra Revolutionary War, for nearly 15 years, she ministered among the people of Nicaragua. She returned to Brazil in 1999 and continued to serve for the next 22 years.
Sister Ani has been a passionate advocate and leader for ecological change since the mid-1970s and gives thanks to God for the hope Pope Francis offers, especially through his encyclical Laudato Si’.
