Barbara-Jean Kubik
Sister Barbara-Jean Kubik, SNDdeN was born in Springfield, Massachusetts, the daughter of Anthony and Emilia (Bocon) Kubik.
A 1967 French major graduate of Emmanuel College, she entered Notre Dame in 1968 and taught French at Notre Dame Academies in Hingham and Tyngsboro. She joined the faculty at Emmanuel College in 1982. In 1990, she moved to Connecticut to teach English to Foreign Speakers.
Through a Barbara Bush Family Literacy Grant at Catholic Charities Migration Refugee Services in Hartford, she worked with newly arrived refugee mothers, teaching English in their homes. This was a treasured ministry and led her to engage in Clinical Pastoral Education and hospital ministry. Further ministry experiences included working at East Catholic High School in Manchester, Connecticut, a year of teaching English at Notre Dame Seishin University in Okayama, Japan, serving as Notre Dame Mission Volunteers Site director in Hartford and then Healthcare Coordinator for the Connecticut Sisters of Notre Dame.
She is currently involved in parish activities at St. Patrick-St. Anthony Parish in Hartford, and in volunteer activities at Notre Dame and a local nursing home.
