Marjorie “William Katherine” Gallagher
Born and raised in Chester and Parkside, Pennsylvania, Sister Marjorie Gallagher is the daughter of the late William and Katherine Fedina Gallagher, and ninth of 11 children.
After attending Resurrection and St. Michael Schools in Chester, she finished at Our Lady of Charity School in Brookhaven, and her high school years were spent at Notre Dame High School in Moylan.
She says she felt called to enter the convent since early childhood, and that feeling was solidified when she met the Sisters at Notre Dame in Moylan. “I knew this was where I belonged,” she says. She entered the community in 1961.
She received her bachelor of science in education from Trinity University, Washington, D.C., and her master’s degree in Religious Education from LaSalle University, Philadelphia.
Her ministries have been in formal elementary and secondary education at the Maryland schools Our Lady of Victory, Trinity School, Brooklandville, Maryvale Prep, and John Carroll High School. She also served 23 years in Youth Ministry, as director of Religious Education, in Campus Ministry, and as secretary to the President of what is now Stevenson University (then Villa Julie College) in Stevenson, Maryland. Her parish work was also in Kingwood, West Virginia, and Washington, D.C.
For a year, she served as one of the coordinators at the St. Julie Billiart Residential Care Center in Ipswich, Massachusetts. She currently lives in Bel Air, Maryland.
