Patricia Tryon (1943-2020)

Sister Patricia Tryon, SNDdeN went home to her good God on May 15, 2020 in Worcester, Massachusetts.

On her Golden Jubilee in Notre Dame, Pat wrote: “Little did I know that when I completed my B.A. in math at the University of Connecticut, left my home in Ossining, NY, and took a position at IBM in Washington, D.C. that I would become a Sister of Notre Dame de Namur.”

In D.C., her parish priest put her in touch with Sister Mary Adele White and in 1967, she entered the Congregation in Ilchester, Maryland. Her early years in the community saw her teaching math at various high schools until, in 1977, she received a mission to Kenya. There she taught math at St. Kizito and at Eregi Teachers’ College. In 1985, she served as headmistress of Moi Secondary School in Marsabit, a remote desert area. In 1988, she returned to the States and spent the next twelve years serving as religious education director in parishes in North Carolina, Virginia and West Virginia.

In 2001, she became a pastoral associate at St. Isaac Jogues in Baltimore, Maryland. She remarked that it was “a joy to be a spiritual resource for people in their search for God – a ministry very close to St. Julie’s heart.” With declining health, Pat moved to Villa Julie in 2015 and then to our health facilities in Worcester, Massachusetts. Her years there were happy ones!

The daughter of the late Eugene and Sylvia (Davis) Tryon; and sister of the late Peter Vincent Tryon and Mrs. Betsy (Tryon) Gordon of New Hampshire. Sister is survived by brother-in-law Richard Gordon, nieces Rachel Knott and Amanda Bella, a host of relatives and friends and her religious family, the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur.
