Catherine Horan (1939-2026)

Sister Catherine Horan, SNDdeN, was born in 1939 to Thomas and Catherine (Alderdice) Horan in Miami Beach, Florida. She entered the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur on August 11, 1957, making First Vows in 1960 and Perpetual Vows in 1965. Sister Catherine earned a B.S. in physics from Trinity College, an M.T.S. in mathematics from The Catholic University of America, and an MBA from Loyola College.

A gifted educator and administrator at St. Camillus School in Silver Spring, Md., Notre Dame Academy in Philadelphia and Washington, D.C., and Trinity Preparatory School in Ilchester, Md., Sister Catherine also served in both local and international leadership in the Congregation. Sister Catherine ministered faithfully with unhoused women for 15 years at St. Peter Shelter and the House of Ruth in Washington, D.C. In Kenya, she worked with children with disabilities and helped people establish small businesses.

Sister Catherine went peacefully home to her good God on January 3, 2026, at age 86.
