On March 28, 2022, Sister Carolyn wrote this about her experience in South Sudan and the book:

Members of the Solidarity With South Sudan group in 2018.

I’m very grateful for the nine years I lived in South Sudan with women and men religious from around the world engaged in teacher training in Malakal and Yambio. Solidarity with South Sudan was birthed from the first International Meeting of Women and Men Religious fired by the Holy Spirit….Passion for Christ Passion for Humanity.

In March 2020, the time the Pandemic began, the Executive Director of Solidarity with South Sudan asked me to write a book describing the growth of Solidarity in South Sudan. I’m grateful to the Principal of Solidarity Teacher Training College who shared her journal of her pioneering days in Riimenze which gave birth to the STTC in Yambio. I’m grateful to Sr. Rosa, the dynamo who started the Sustainable Farm which supplies the STTC with food. Rosa was patient with me for our several interviews as I gathered info for the book.

Some graduates of the Solidarity Teacher Training College at Yambio, where Sister Carolyn served.

I feel fortunate that my first years in South Sudan were in Malakal, the first STTC, which is no more due to war. From Malakal I was missioned to Wau to help organize the library for the Catholic Health Training Institute. Seeing and living in these hot spots helped me appreciate more and more the inspiration of the Holy Spirit and the fire burning in so many missionary hearts.

I hope our book, Collaborative Mission in South Sudan: Towards a New Paradigm, conveys some of the joys and sorrows of this missionary effort which continues with God’s Grace.
