Bárbara Gutiérrez
Sister Bárbara Gutiérrez, SNDdeN is a native of Mexico City. She worked as a business consultant in Mexico before accepting a job offer in the United States. She continued to work in consulting and human resources in different states before entering religious life.
Since entering the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur, Sister Bárbara has worked in Catholic education, serving the Latino community in different facets and stressing the importance of diversity, equity, and inclusion. When she was a novice, she volunteered at Catholic Charities in Cincinnati, Ohio, and Hope Community Center in Apopka, Florida, serving immigrant families and people living on the margins.
She has worked as Director of Admissions at Notre Dame Cristo Rey High School in Lawrence, Mass; Consultant to the National Catholic Educational Association; Director of Enrollment Management at the Catholic Schools Office in the Archdiocese of Boston; and, more recently, as Director of the Office for Diversity and Inclusion at Emmanuel College.
She has contributed to different organizations as a speaker about cultural diversity and Latino culture and occasionally guides day retreats at the Notre Dame Spirituality Center in Ipswich, Massachusetts.
Sister Bárbara earned a Bachelor of Science in Marine Biology at Sinaloa University in Sinaloa, Mexico, and a Master of Theology and Ministry at the School of Theology and Ministry of Boston College.
