Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur, women with hearts as wide as the world, make known God's goodness and love of the poor through a Gospel way of life, community and prayer. Continuing a strong educational tradition, we take our stand with poor people especially women and children, in the most abandoned places. Each of us commits her one and only life to work with others to create justice and peace for all.

To discover and live God’s will … that which is Good, Real and True … is the purpose of discernment. Through personal discernment one discovers and is awakened to one’s true self, one’s true nature and identity in God.
We are women called and gifted by our Creator, drawn to this world-wide Notre Dame de Namur Community with others who share a similar spirit and vision, as seen in our founder, St. Julie Billiart. That spirit of simplicity and joy is evident in a wholehearted dedication of ourselves wherever we live and work.
Our mission in Brazil opened in 1962 when five of our Sisters were missioned to the Northeastern State of Maranhao. That was the year I entered Notre Dame. As a Novice I expressed my desire to serve in Brazil because since childhood I felt called to a missionary vocation. After I taught school for six and a half years, I was missioned to Brazil. Though I loved the students I taught and the communities I lived in, the call I felt so deeply was being realized. You can’t imagine how happy I was!
